(The Independent High Authority for the Elections (ISIE) is expected to appeal the verdicts handed down by the Administrative Court invalidating its decision to reject four nominations for the 2019 presidential election on Tuesday, said its president Nabil Bafoun.
Speaking to TAP, Bafoun stressed the importance of holding the plenary assembly of the Administrative Court to rule on appeals before August 31, i.e. the date when the final list of presidential candidates will be announced.
On challenges filed by citizens whose names appear on the sponsorship lists of several presidential candidates without their knowledge, Bafoun explained that a large part of these cases were brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office who began proceedings against a number of candidates.
Bafoun said the judgments b the Administrative Court will be taken into account if pronounced before August 31. Beyond that date, it will not be possible for the authority to change the situation because the ballot papers will already be printed and distributed after the final list of candidates is announced, he said.
With regard to candidate Hatem Boulabyar who is the subject of a complaint filed by MP Maher Dhouib with the ISIE and another with the Court of First Instance in which he affirms not to have sponsored Boulabyar, ISIE considers that Boulabyar is still a presidential candidate until a legal decision is rendered, he pointed out.
